Progress & Monitoring
At Baxter College, we are continually developing ways of assessing our students to secure progress.
Each curriculum area has assessment procedures incorporated into the programmes of study. Teachers take a ‘formative’ approach to assessment. This means that learning is continually reviewed and assessed during lessons, enabling teachers to adapt to meet the student’s needs. These assessments are closely tracked by the Senior Leadership Team to ensure progress is appropriate.
Parent-teacher meetings are held at various times throughout the year to ensure parents are fully informed of their child's progress.
Exams
Taking exams can be a stressful time for both students and parents/carers. Good support from those around them is fundamental in exam success for our young people.
This section is designed to offer practical advice for parents and carers, so that you are well equipped to help your child manage and prepare for all aspects of the examination process.
Independent Study
Revision is one of the key elements in planning for exams. It is important that your child regularly revises to keep the momentum going! Short revision sessions with plenty of breaks are best.
There are numerous ways to support your child, the following online resource will help you and your child with their revision.

Exam Dates & Timetable
Individual timetables will be issued to all students taking exams this Summer.
If you have any questions relating to your child’s examinations dates, timetables, results or revision, please contact our Examinations Office at the school.
Grades & Reports
Grades, targets and other marks used to assess how your child is progressing in school can sometimes be confusing. This section is designed to break down the confusion to offer you a full explanation of your child’s progress. The ATL and Learning Journey Matrix shows the depth of knowledge in each subject and the 9-1 grade is the new way that GCSE subjects are graded, while Attitude to Learning offers a more rounded view of your child and how they approach each subject, the commitment to home studies and their input during class time.
